The MRTA has been designated to implement the rail mass rapid transit system in BangkokMetropolitan and adjacent areas as prescribed in the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand Act, B.E. 2543. Currently,the MRTA is supervising the initial system project that is officially called the M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line.In Addition, the MRTA has been assigned to implement a part of MRT extension network approved by the Cabinet onMarch 18, 2008.The M.R.T. Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line is Thailand’s first project that is a public-private partnership scheme ofinvestment under the Private Participation in State Undertaking Act, B.E. 2535. The MRTA represents the public sector.It is responsible for project management is the investor of civil infrastructure and land acquisition.
