It is located in three districts of Nakhon Sawan Province: Mueang Nakhon Sawan, Tha Tako, and Chum Saeng. It is an important tourist site in Nakhon Sawan Province. In the middle of the lake, there is a floating pavilion built during the reign of King Mongkut to serve as a royal residence. Originally, this Bueng Boraphet was called "Thale Nuea" (Northern Sea) or "Chom Bueng" (Lake Peak) because it had a large number of aquatic animals and plants, including crocodiles. Surveys found approximately 148 species of animals and 44 species of plants. Rare animal species include the Sirindhorn's Whistling Teal (first found at Bueng Boraphet) and the Siamese crocodile. From November to March, large numbers of migratory waterfowl come to this lake. Some areas have been declared wildlife sanctuaries.
