General consumer price index

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) is a statistical tool used to measure changes in retail prices of goods and services of a constant quantity over a specific period, compared to prices in the same goods during a base year. It is used to measure the cost of living and national inflation. CPI data is an important indicator of a country's progress. The data can be used to analyze economic and urban expansion and to reference past values. The Office of Trade Policy and Strategy has compiled indices for multiple base years and provides them to external parties for reference and analysis of national growth and stability.
