Number of Village Health Volunteers (VHVs)

Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) refer to individuals selected by villagers in each village group and trained according to curricula prescribed by the Ministry of Public Health. They play a key role as change agents for health behavior modification, public health communication, knowledge dissemination, planning, and coordinating public health development activities. They also provide various public health services, such as health promotion, disease surveillance and prevention, and basic assistance and treatment using medicines and medical supplies within the scope defined by the Ministry of Public Health. They refer patients for rehabilitation services and protect consumer health. The six roles of VHVs are: dispelling rumors, spreading good news, guiding services, coordinating public health, alleviating people's suffering, and serving as good role models.
